How to create a playful and personal children's room
A child's room is more than just a bedroom. It's a child's own world – the room where imagination, play and memories come together. When we decorate, we often get caught up in furniture and storage, but it's the colors and details that really set the mood.
Colors that create balance and playfulness
Colors affect both the play and the mood in the room. To find the balance, you can think like this:
-
Choose a base color that creates calm, such as a soft beige, light gray or pastel.
-
Add 2–3 accent colors for playfulness – preferably bright colors like red, green or blue.
-
Stick to the same color scheme so that several colors still connect. This will make the room feel exciting but not cluttered.
-
Let the details carry the color : rugs, lamps, pillows and posters can provide the playful elements while walls and furniture are more neutral.
With simple means, a child's room can be both colorful and harmonious.
Let the child's world be seen on the walls
Once the practical elements are in place, it's the details that make the room unique. Here, the walls can play the leading role. Personal posters – like a dictionary poster with the child's own words or a quote poster with their funniest expressions – turn the room into more than just a place to play.
They become little time capsules on the wall. As the child grows, they become a reminder of who they were at that moment, and for us adults, a way to hold on to that time that otherwise disappears so quickly.
